Within the context of a common project for all the theatre creators at Toneelhuis, Guy Cassiers, artistic director of the Antwerp theatre house, proposed Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, who had just joined Toneelhuis for 4 years, to create a short duet inspired by one of the chapters of Julian Barnes' book: 'A History of the World in Ten and a Half Chapters'. Cherkaoui proposes a duet between dancer and circus artist Damien Fournier and choreographer and dancer Iris Bouche. On a trampoline resembling a bed, the two dancers struggle through the night. As one is looking for the other, they are separated from eachother by the sheets. The soundscape is the voice of Iris, explaining the struggle of a man unable to rest while his female partner is sleeping softly. Mixing trampoline circus technique and poetic images, this short project explores different ideas around the complexities of male female relationships.
