Oliver Tida Tida, born and raised in Cameroon, arrived in Europe in 2000 with the Afro-contemporary company Nyanga Dance, with which he made his debut as a dancer during a European tour alongside Robin Orlin’s company. The company eventually settled in Europe. Driven by a deep desire to learn, Oliver joined the Académie Internationale de la Danse (AID) in Paris, where he graduated. He went on to perform in numerous productions, including Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Jérôme Savary), Snow White (Studio 100), Kirikou et Karaba (Wayne McGregor), Noé, Gladiators, Le Vol du Boli (Abderrahmane Sissako), Holy Land, L’Extraordinaire, Le Voyage du Fakir, Adam et Ève (Pascal Obispo), Gone with the Wind, Rabbi Jacob (Patrick Timsit), and A Season in the Congo (Joe Wright and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui). It was during this time that he first met Cherkaoui and Wright, later joining the tour of Cherkaoui’s 4D. Alongside these projects, he also collaborated with various other companies, including Cie La Baraka (Abou Lagraa), Claude and Benjamin Brumachon, Cie Thor (Thierry Smits), Cie Georges Momboye, Cie Faizal Zeghoudi, Cie Blanca Li, Cie Christine Hassid, and Cie Ko Murobushi (The Rite of Spring). In 2019, he was invited back by Cherkaoui’s Eastman as a replacement performer and to work on Wright’s Cyrano. Although the styles he explores have become increasingly diverse, he feels at home within them. Beyond movement itself, which he continues to deepen every day, it is the vision and humanism embodied by Cherkaoui and Wright that inspire him to constantly go beyond his limits. To search. To find meaning in the body through time and space. To explore the fragility, emotion, and imbalance that a gesture can evoke when it is transcended by feeling. Giving as much as possible, body and mind, he remains in constant pursuit of learning. There is so much beauty in this world to experience, and his heart holds onto every small fragment of it.
