Alexandre Dai Castaing
Alexandre Dai Castaing is a Franco-Vietnamese composer, born in Paris, known for his work with prominent names in contemporary,ballet and hip-hop dance, such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. He has also composed music for numerous fashion events and theater productions like Romeo and Juliet by Diane Paulus (USA), Evangelion Beyond in Japan and also the presidential campaign of François Hollande.
He studied classical piano in Paris and contemporary music and jazz drumming in Geneva. His artistic approach is characterized by interdisciplinarity, respect for cultures, and genre blending. He has composed for various fields including cinema, opera, theater, advertising, video games, circus, animation, and television.
Collaborating with renowned choreographers, he has created music for over forty choreographic works. Recent projects include Romeo & Juliet (directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, August 2024), Peter Pan (commissioned by HUNGdance/the National Taichung Theater in Taiwan, July 2024), The Loubi Show IV (Paris Fashion Week, September 2023), and Ukiyo-e (Grand Théâtre de Genève, a world premiere directed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Artistic Director of the Geneva Dance Ballet, November 2022).
His musical universe is inspired by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Claude Debussy, and KODO. Alexandre also collaborates with members of Japanese group KODO. In June 2024, Greenpeace Japan enlisted him to design an artistic event to raise awareness about excessive plastic use.
