Nassim Baddag
Nassim Baddag (2000, France) was born in Saint-Maurice, France. In dance he found a “discipline” in every sense of the word. At the age of 9 he began learning breakdance after discovering it while watching street performances in Paris and through tutorials on YouTube. During his middle school years, Nassim joined a dance program that allowed him to discover the world of dance companies by frequently attending performances at the Théâtre de Chaillot and the Théâtre de la Ville. His curiosity led him to explore contemporary dance. He continued to train in a largely self-taught way, mainly by working with many different dancers, taking a few open classes, but above all through a great deal of practice. His dance is inspired by the movements of animals; he enjoys relating to space in its entirety: running, falling, catching himself, holding balances, and challenging gravity. With his dance partner Arnaud Deprez, he founded the Montmartre Breaking Club, a street performance duo often seen on the square of the Sacré-Cœur in Paris. They attracted significant attention by performing in the streets during the Covid years, which made them true defenders of the culture. Since then, Nassim Baddag has been invited to perform at numerous events such as fashion shows, dance scenes in films, and film festivals.
In 2021, Nassim met Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and worked with him as an actor on the film Backstage by Afef Ben Mahmoud, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2023. Cherkaoui later invited him to join the tour of Nomad. In 2022, he performed in Cherkaoui’s opera Alceste at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in Italy. At the end of 2023, Nassim met Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Radouan Mriziga, who invited him to join Rosas for the creation Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Inventione. Today, he continues to perform internationally, give classes, and work on his personal projects as a choreographer and videographer.
